Have you always dreamed of starting your own business? The prospect can be daunting, especially if you don’t have a formal business degree or know exactly which steps to take.

As a small business owner myself, I know just how daunting the process can be. That’s one of the reasons why I decided to take the Udemy course, “Entrepreneurship: The Making of a Great Entrepreneur,” which is taught by Jack Delosa.

This class is perfect when it comes to providing you with a training on how successful entrepreneurs think and structure their thoughts to help them build their businesses. If you’re trying to clarify your business vision or need to get started with mapping out your plan, this course is a great way to help you get started.

It’s only about half an hour long, so it won’t take you long to work your way through it. Although I had a few minor complaints about the course, overall, it’s one that I think is well worth your time. And since it’s free, it’s definitely worth your money, too!

Here’s what you need to know.

What is Entrepreneurship: The Making of a Great Entrepreneur?

Before I delve into what the course actually covers, let’s talk about what entrepreneurship actually is. That way, you’ll have a good idea of whether this course might be a good fit for you and your business goals in particular.

Technically, an entrepreneur is anybody who organizes and operates a business. Usually, doing so will involve greater than average financial risks. Often, being an entrepreneur means bringing a new product, process, or service to the market, or doing something to dramatically improve an existing product, service, or process.

To become an entrepreneur, you don’t need to have any kind of formal training in any area. However, many entrepreneurs do have some background in business. But taking classes that will acquaint you with how to start and how to run a successful business is a good way to get started, especially if you’ve never been a leader in any capacity before.

The class titled “Entrepreneurship: The Making of a Great Entrepreneur,” taught by Jack Delosa on Udemy, is a great place to start. It is perfect both for aspiring business owners as well as current entrepreneurs looking for a bit more guidance or inspiration.

In the class, you’ll not only learn how to become an independent thinker (which is absolutely essential if you want to own your own b business) but you’ll also develop these skills necessary to craft a clear mission and vision for your business. You will also learn ways that you can start overcoming challenges and taking responsibility for the factors that influence and affect your business.

You will gain a clear understanding of how the world’s most prominent entrepreneurs think – and you’ll also gain sight on how you can apply that thinking to your own life and mission. You’ll get clarity on your own business plans and vision, too, which is absolutely essential if you feel as though you’re shooting around at random when it comes to designing your business.

What Kinds of Content Does the Course Cover?

The class is broken down into 13 total lectures, which are divided into four major sections.

Intro

In the introduction to the course, you will learn more about what the class covers and who Jack Delosa actually is. I liked this intro, as it gave a bit of insight into what I would learn in the class and why exactly it matters.

It was only a couple of minutes long, which was just long enough to give me a quick taste of the class without being overly lengthy or repetitive, which is an issue I’ve had with some other courses on Udemy.

7 Core Characteristics of Great Change Makers and Entrepreneurs

The next section is the real “meat” of the course, and it’s the one in which Delosa gets into all the nitty-gritty details of entrepreneurship. Here, he outlines the characteristics that all great entrepreneurs share. He emphasizes that these don’t have to necessarily be innate characteristics but that they can be things that you build.

These characteristics are:

  • Independent thinking
  • Viewing your work as an extension of yourself
  • Flexibility
  • A solid vision
  • A solid mission
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Effective leadership

He also includes a “bonus” exercise so that you can create your own mission and vision, if this is something you have been struggling with.

Conclusion

The conclusion is short and sweet, and probably, the course would be the same without it – however, I liked having it thrown in there. I prefer when a course has a “capstone” at the end to bring together everything I have learned. Now, it’s important to note that this class, unlike many others that you will find on Udemy, does not come with any quizzes.

Most Udemy courses have quizzes either at the end of each section or as a final culmination to the course. This one did not.

It’s not a dealbreaker – although I like having quizzes to help me review what I’ve learned, since this class was more of a motivational course than a content-based course, the quizzes didn’t really seem necessary. The exercises and the conclusion at the end helped tie things together in their stead.

Bonus Section

Finally, Delosa includes a bonus section that has one more lecture on what creates successful entrepreneurs. He goes into detail about a common argument that is had surrounding the topic of entrepreneurship – whether it’s luck or hard work that helps to create a solid business.

I found this topic to be incredibly intriguing, as a small business owner myself. It’s a question I have often asked myself, and I won’t spoil the answer for you – you should take the class to find out what Delosa thinks. I will say that it was my favorite part of the class and it helps put to rest this debate for good.

Delosa also includes a short, seven-minute chat about books you should read if you want to become an entrepreneur. This, too, I found to be incredibly helpful, especially since it didn’t just seem to be a plug for Delosa’s work alone. If you’re going to be a successful business owner, it’s crucial that you get yourself in the habit of constantly learning and growing. These book suggestions can help you do just that.

Major Benefits of Taking This Course

Clear, Professional Instruction from a Leading Entrepreneur

The instructor of this class is Jack Delosa, the founder and also the CEO of Australia’s largest training institution for entrepreneurs, a company known as The Entourage. Not only that, but Delosa is an entrepreneur in his own right. He is also an investor, an author, and a BRW Young Rich List Member.

Delosa has been an entrepreneur since he was only 18 years old and has built several companies since then. He has studied with and from notable entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, and Richard Branson. His experience in building businesses has made him a leading authority in entrepreneurship and he offers his knowledge in a humble, helpful way.

His company, The Entourage, has a community of more than 300,000 members and seeks to improve the traditional style of education by putting the individual first. This company was named the 4th best place to work in Australia by BRW magazine.

Not only that, but Delosa also founded MBE Education, a company that assists both small and medium-sized enterprises in scoring deals with investors. It’s a fast-growing company and has helped hundreds of clients raise millions of dollars.

Delosa is an investor in growth companies like eMarchants, Martin Jet Pack, and Q-Biotics and also founded The Entourage Growth Fund. This fund invests primarily in small business startups.

He is the author of several books, including UnProfessional, which reached the bestseller list in just three weeks of being on the shelves, and Unwritten, which has a more holistic view on how to live a life “on purpose.”

Delosa also founded The Entourage Beanstalk Factory, a company that provides entrepreneurial training to corporations, and has contributed to the development of curriculum at the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is very active in the business community and speaks frequently on shows and in publications like Today Tonight, The Morning Show,  GQ, Men’s Health, The Daily Telegraph, and many more.

Finally, Delosa is named one of Australia’s Top 10 Entrepreneurs Under 30 – a recognition he has received twice.

With all of these accolades (and more that aren’t even included in this long list), it’s clear that Delosa really knows his stuff when it comes to starting and succeeding at running a business. When you’re taking any kind of class, it’s helpful to know that you are learning from somebody who truly knows their stuff – someone who can talk the talk and walk the walk.

Access to Additional Jack Delosa Resources

Jack Delosa is an absolute wealth of knowledge, and when you take this class, you’ll benefit from his experience in a very real, applicable way. In addition to the information that he shares in the class, you’ll also be able to access episodes of #AskJackD, his online show and podcast.

This unique video series covers all kinds of questions that may come up when you are trying to build a successful business. You’ll learn more about how to address and overcome the unique challenges of being an entrepreneur, too.

Jack Delosa also provides students with information on how to access his Facebook page and other social media profiles, too. Delosa has an active website along with Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages as well.

Simple, Efficient Design

At just half an hour-long, this course is the ideal length. Delosa doesn’t’ spend an unnecessary amount of time glossing over unimportant details but instead gets right down to the nitty-gritty. It isn’t full of complicated business terminology but instead contains clear approaches and easy to understand language.

Furthermore, Delosa has a lot of enthusiasm and is fun to listen to as he’s teaching the class. I’ve taken Udemy courses before that were incredibly bland and boring to watch and listen to. Delosa clearly knows his stuff, but he doesn’t talk down to the viewer, nor does he deliver content in too much of a matter-of-fact manner. He has a personable tone and is incredibly enthusiastic.

The course is clear, concise, and thought-provoking – and it won’t put you to sleep!

Free Course

This class is not only free, but it’s backed by Udemy’s solid course policies and guarantees. All paid classes come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you aren’t sold on the idea of taking an online class and having to pay for it, this is an excellent feature. You can try the class out to see whether it’s the right fit for you, with zero risks involved.

Entrepreneurship - The Making of a Great Entrepreneur - Free Course

Again, you don’t have to pay for this class, and even most of Udemy’s paid courses are pretty cheap. However, it’s still nice to have that added insurance policy in case you decide to take your learning a bit further.

Everything Offered Fully Online

I have taken some online classes that require you to download supplemental materials, print off extra reading, or even buy books to supplement the material covered in the class. That’s incredibly aggravating since you’re already investing the necessary time in the initial content. However, this course has everything you need all in one place.

Most of the content is offered in a convenient video format. You can watch Jack Delosa as he moves through the content in an easy to understand why. There are a few supplemental resources that are print materials that can be downloaded as PDFs (however, you are not required to download them in order to view them).

Plus, these classes are compatible with just about every type of device. You can take the course on a desktop or laptop computer (which is what I decided to do) or you can take them on a smartphone or tablet. They are compatible with both Apple and Android devices.

Udemy also has an app that can be installed on both kinds of devices so that you don’t have to use your browser to view course content. I took this class entirely on my computer, so I can’t speak to how well it would play on a smartphone app. However, I have the Udemy app on my phone and have found it to be reliable and effective when taking online courses. I don’t notice much of a difference between courses in that format and those that I take on my desktop.

Further Reading

I absolutely loved the fact that Delosa gives us some ideas on other books to read when working on becoming an entrepreneur. These books are readily available at most bookstores and can give all entrepreneurs some more room to grow and explore their ideas. They are great selections for new entrepreneurs as well as those who have been in business for quite some time.

Related Courses

If you like Jack Delosa’s style of teaching, keep in mind that he does have one additional class you can take on Udemy. It is not a free class-  you will have to pay $11.99 to take the class, but I think it’s worth it.

Titled “Entrepreneurship: 5 Keys to Building a Successful Business,” this second course delves deeper into the nitty-gritty details of entrepreneurship. It is far more in-depth than the first class, consisting of two full hours of instruction and 45 separate lectures. The course has a 4.6 rating on Udemy, which is extremely impressive (although it’s worth noting that many more students have enrolled in the free course than the paid one).

If Delosa’s methods of instruction weren’t exactly your style, there are other entrepreneurship courses on Udemy you may want to pursue, too. Both paid and free courses are available.

Many of these have very specific focuses that are designed for budding entrepreneurs in various “niches.” For example, one of the most popular classes is “Build a Shopify Dropshipping Business from Scratch.” Another is “Blogging Masterclass: How to Build a Successful Blog in 2020.”

There are several free entrepreneurship classes you might pursue, too, including “These 5 Books Will Make You a Better Entrepreneur” and “Roadmap to the Entrepreneurial Mindset and Toolkit.” It’s important to note that, out of all the free entrepreneurship courses on Udemy, Delosa’s class is ranked as one of the most popular.

Complaints About the Course

No Direct Interaction With Instructor

This is something that is true of all free courses on Udemy, but it’s a feature I wish came with more of the free classes. I like being able to interact with my teacher, at least to some extent, while I’m taking a class. Unfortunately, with this course, that’s just not an option. Although you can interact with your instructors in paid courses, that feature is not available on free Udemy classes.

Also unavailable? You don’t get any kind of question and answer opportunities with your teacher, nor do you get a certificate of completion. The certificate of completion wasn’t really something I was looking for, anyway. I’m not looking to get a job in business and I think most people who take this class wouldn’t really need a certification anyway. After all, if you’re starting your own business, you’re your own boss – so no credentials are necessary.

However, it is something to pay attention to if you’d like to receive some recognition that you completed the training.

Very Entry-Level

As somebody who already owns a business, I found this course to be more of a motivational tool than an instructional tool. Although Delosa offers students plenty of helpful tips they can follow, most of them were ones that I was already aware of. After reading some reviews from other students who have taken the course, it was clear that they felt the same way – this class is best for somebody who is 100% new to the business.

That’s not to say that I didn’t get anything out of it – I found that it reignited the passion I have for my business and made me want to work harder at incorporating the principles that Delosa covers in the class. Just don’t expect to learn anything too earth-shattering if you have some background experience in running a business already.

Who is the Entrepreneurship: The Making of a Great Entrepreneur Course on Udemy Best For?

Delosa describes entrepreneurship as being a “marathon, not a sprint.” According to him, it’s one of the hardest things you can ever do, and it will challenge you constantly -but those challenges will help you grow and to live a more meaningful existence.

This class provides a great introduction to that lifestyle, as well as tangible ways you can overcome challenges in starting your own business. Although he describes the journey as more of a marathon, this course is set up more like a sprint – it’s just fast-paced enough to help you move through the content quickly, yet not so speedy that you feel like you’re missing out on anything important.

According to Delosa, the class is the perfect fit for any aspiring innovator or entrepreneur. As long as you have the motivation to learn the necessary skills – as well as the desire to build a “purpose-driven business” – you do not need to have any prerequisite training or course background. You also don’t need to have past experience in business or entrepreneurship.

As long as you have a dream of starting a business – or already own a business and need clarity on your values and mission – this course will help you succeed.

I enjoyed taking this course, as I thought it was just thorough enough without being too monotonous. I would recommend it to anybody hoping to start their own business – as well as current business owners looking to improve their craft.
